Power Tool Basics (2-day)
Join us at the West Bethel Maker Space to learn power tool basics. We will review chop saws, table saws, circular saws, drills, drivers, orbital sanders, plan reading, fasteners and material selection. No experience necessary. Come with your questions, it’s a chance to explore safely and learn the tricks of the trade.
Layout & Framing Basics (2-day)
Join us to learn layout and framing techniques. We will transfer layout from plans, learn to frame window and door openings, and sheath the walls of an 8’x5’ woodshed. No experience required.
Rafter Cutting Basics (2-day)
Join us for rafter layout and cutting. We will be referencing plans and an 8’x5’ woodshed structure. Learn to cut a birdsmouth and use Pythagorean Theorem. No experience required… a taste for math is helpful, though.
Stool Caning (1-day)
Join us to learn traditional chair caning techniques. We will be using laced cane to create a 7-step weave on round stools provided by We Built This. The class is also open to folks who have active chair caning or weaving projects and are looking for guidance and accountability.
Building a Barn Door (1-Day)
Join us to build z-brace style barn doors. We will cover plan reading, wood movement and fastener and material selection. No experience required.
Stool Weaving (1-day)
Join us to learn traditional porch weave on a colonial foot stool provided by We Built This. Not to be confused with caning, this technique uses a half-round reed and is more akin to basket weaving. No experience required. Anyone with a chair caning or weaving project of their own is invited to attend for guidance and accountability.
Power Tool Basics: Tool Boxes
Learn the basics for safe operation of power tools. Practice using circular saw, table saw, orbital sanders, chop saw and drills & drivers. Read plans to build toolboxes and learn about fastener and material selection. Expand your understanding of finish-level carpentry.

Learn the basics for safe operation of power tools. Practice using circular saw, table saw, chop saw and drills & drivers. Read plans to build sawhorses and learn about fastener and material selection.
Chair Weaving: Colonial Foot Stool
Learn traditional porch weaving on a Colonial-style foot stool. This course will prepare you for weaving on porch rockers. Join us if you have been to a previous chair workshop and want to continue working on it with guidance.
Introduction to Joinery: Lap Joints
This beginner friendly workshop will teach how to measure, mark, and cut beautiful lap joints! This workshop will be held at Opus One Studio in Falmouth on February 14th and 15th from 9am-4pm. We will be learning the basics of wood movement, how to accurately mark and measure from a story stick, and the techniques for cutting joints with hand tools and power tools. Participants will be building a lamp shade out of cherry wood and rice paper. The structure of the lamp shade will be built with full lap joints creating a frame reminiscent of a timber frame. The lamp will be desktop size (approximately 16" tall) and the light fixture will be included in the registration fees. Prior experience not required.
